Joint research and technology evaluation procedures completed... Receive the full amount of consideration agreed upon in the contract
Peptron “This is not the end of commercialization cooperation”… Review of commercialization, mass productivity, etc.
After the announcement, the aftermarket intraday lower limit price… Pay attention to follow-up commercialization
Peptron (087010) and global pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly have completed the technology evaluation of SmartDepot™, a long-acting injectable platform that has been ongoing for about two years. However, no follow-up commercialization contract was concluded at the end of the evaluation.
Peptron announced on its official website on the 7th, “As of October 7, 2026, the SmartDepot platform technology evaluation period conducted with Eli Lilly has ended.”
The company explained, “We are also taking seriously the fact that we cannot inform you of the results of signing a follow-up commercialization contract at the end of the technology evaluation period.”
However, the end of this technology evaluation means that the joint research and evaluation process has been completed, and it does not mean the end of the possibility of future commercialization cooperation between the two companies.
Two years of joint research completed... Receive the full agreed upon price
Cooperation between the two companies began on October 7, 2024, when Peptron signed a platform technology evaluation contract with Lilly. Peptron granted a non-exclusive license to SmartDepot for joint research on Lilly's peptide drugs.
The initially announced contract period was ‘until the end of the evaluation (approximately 14 months).’ Afterwards, as the technology evaluation took longer than originally expected, Peptron added ‘up to 24 months’ to the contract period through a correction announcement in December 2025.
According to Peptron, the joint research was conducted with an expanded scope of research and additional technical evaluation than initially planned at the time of signing the contract. The related joint research and technology evaluation procedures were completed within the contract period, and the full price agreed upon in the technology evaluation contract was received.
‘October 7th’ arrives… Now, with the decision to commercialize
On the 28th of last month, the Market Times reported, “Peptron-Lily ‘October 7th’… Through “The Future of Technology Transfer,” it was pointed out that although October 7 is not the deadline for signing a technology transfer contract, it is a major turning point in determining what subsequent decisions Lilly will make after evaluating SmartDepot for about two years.
Peptron also answered “No” to the question ‘Is October 7th the deadline for signing the technology transfer contract’ in its official FAQ last September, explaining that it is related to the contract period of the current joint research contract.
In fact, the technology evaluation was completed on this day, but a follow-up commercialization contract was not signed.
Future reviews and discussions on commercialization cooperation will be conducted based on the results of joint research and technology evaluation accumulated so far. The review factors presented by the company include commercialization feasibility, mass productivity, marketability, and intellectual property rights.
Peptron explained that the specific form and timing of follow-up commercialization cooperation will be determined through this review and decision-making by both companies, and that it is difficult to disclose in detail at this time.
Aftermarket intraday low price immediately after announcement
The market reacted immediately. After Peptron's official announcement, the stock price plummeted in the aftermarket, falling to 91,500 won during the day, hitting the lowest price limit.
As there was market expectation that a follow-up commercialization contract could be issued at the end of the technology evaluation, which lasted about two years, it is interpreted that disappointment was concentrated as it was confirmed that the contract had not yet been concluded.
However, it is difficult to conclude that commercialization cooperation with Lilly has failed at this stage. Peptron stated that the end of the technology evaluation does not mean the end of the possibility of commercialization cooperation, and that it plans to review and discuss commercialization cooperation in the future.
