KOSPI fell 1.09%, KOSDAQ rose 5.78%... Trading spreads to KOSDAQ Stock prices adjust amid concentration of large-scale semiconductor trading... KOSDAQ institutions net purchase of KRW 642.9 billion
In the domestic stock market, which returned from the Chuseok holiday, the trends of KOSPI and KOSDAQ were clearly divergent. While the large-cap KOSPI was adjusted, KOSDAQ rebounded strongly, and trading spread to growth stocks, including semiconductors and biotechnology.
KOSPI, which closed at 7,080.92 on the 23rd, fell to 7,003.74 on the 2nd, down 1.09% on a weekly basis. On the other hand, KOSDAQ rose 5.78% from 844.48 to 893.29 during the same period.
There was a temperature difference between the two markets not only in the index, but also in transaction amount, fluctuations by stock, and supply and demand by investment entity.
KOSPI adjustment, KOSDAQ rises 5.78%
KOSPI opened at 6,889.74, down 2.70% on the 28th, right after the holiday. The weakness continued on the 29th and 30th, pushing it to 6,838.04, but rebounded in October. It rose 1.95% on the 1st and 0.46% on the 2nd, recovering the 7,000 mark.
KOSDAQ showed a different trend. It continued to rise right after the holiday, rising 4.48% on October 1, reaching 894.29. It fell 0.11% on the 2nd, but rose 5.78% on a weekly basis.
The cumulative trading volume from September 28 to October 2 was KRW 96.6362 trillion for KOSPI and KRW 39.874 trillion for KOSDAQ. The daily average is 19.3272 trillion won and 7.9748 trillion won, respectively.

While the KOSPI was adjusted after the holidays, it was a week in which the KOSDAQ's upward trend was notable.
The strength of the KOSDAQ industry stands out... Pharmaceuticals 16.73%, machinery 10.24%↑
Even by industry, the trends in the two markets were different. In KOSPI, electricity and gas rose 4.89%, recording the highest increase, followed by distribution 4.12%, transportation equipment and parts 2.41%, machinery and equipment 1.93%, and chemicals 1.27%. On the other hand, electrical and electronics fell 2.96%, steel and metal 1.74%, securities 0.89%, telecommunications 0.52%, and pharmaceuticals 0.41%.
On KOSDAQ, pharmaceuticals showed the strongest trend, rising 16.73%. Machinery and equipment also rose significantly by 10.24%, medical and precision equipment by 8.21%, general services by 7.36%, and finance by 6.98%. On the other hand, the Internet fell 2.31%, distribution 1.28%, communication equipment 0.86%, IT services 0.44%, and broadcasting/entertainment 0.12%.

In KOSDAQ, several industries, especially pharmaceuticals and machinery and equipment, recorded high growth rates, while in KOSPI, the range of rising industries was relatively limited.
Semiconductor and bio industry strength... Small and mid-cap stocks rise significantly
By stock, the rise in KOSDAQ small and mid-cap stocks was notable.
Excluding stocks and SPACs with price adjustments due to corporate actions, etc., C-Site (+75.25%), Winpack (+67.28%), Deokwoo Electronics (+57.21%), Kosem (+55.37%), Wonil T&I (+51.34%), Vuno (+49.91%), Keyeast (+44.02%), AppClon (+42.35%) and HLB (+32.41%) recorded high rise rates.
In KOSPI, TMC (+28.68%), SoluM (+28.46%), Mirae Industry (+28.07%), SH Energy Chemical (+27.39%), Isu Specialty Chemicals (+27.12%), Korea Circuit (+26.57%), Lotte Energy Materials (+26.53%), SNT Dynamics (+25.14%), Daedeok Electronics (+23.79%), and Hanwha Solutions (+23.63%) showed strength.
By stock group, semiconductor and bio-related stocks were particularly strong. In semiconductors, Semi Five (+25.85%), Jeju Semiconductor (+19.07%), HPSP (+18.02%), Jusung Engineering (+13.13%), Hanmi Semiconductor (+11.70%), and Hana Micron (+11.47%) rose.
In bio, Vuno (+49.91%), AbClon (+42.35%), and HLB (+32.41%) recorded high growth rates.
A characteristic of this week is that the stock market has spread, with many rising stocks appearing, especially semiconductors and bio, rather than just a few rapidly rising stocks.
Transactions focused on semiconductors… Large-cap stocks corrected, small- and mid-cap stocks rose
Looking at the top stocks by weekly trading volume, semiconductors were at the center of trading this week.
On KOSPI, trading was concentrated on SK Hynix (-1.13% fluctuation rate, transaction amount of KRW 24.6859 trillion) and Samsung Electronics (-3.33%, KRW 21.5535 trillion). Both stocks recorded high trading volume, but their stock prices fell on a weekly basis.
Following this, large-scale transactions also occurred at Samsung Electro-Mechanics (+4.91%, KRW 4.421 trillion) and SK Square (-2.52%, KRW 2.7395 trillion).
Among the rising stocks, Hanwha Solutions (+23.63%, transaction amount, KRW 1.0972 trillion), Daedeok Electronics (+23.79%, KRW 910.8 billion), and Hanmi Semiconductor (+11.70%, KRW 740.4 billion) recorded both high transaction volume and growth rate.
Trading of small and medium-sized semiconductor stocks was prominent on KOSDAQ. Including Jusung Engineering (fluctuating rate +13.13%, transaction amount KRW 1.4287 trillion), HPSP (+18.02%, KRW 1.1467 trillion), Jeju Semiconductor (+19.07%, KRW 920.1 billion), Wonik IPS (+3.37%, KRW 813.8 billion), and Seongho Electronics (+19.08%, KRW 716.7 billion), Simmtech (+11.84%, KRW 544.5 billion), Semi Five (+25.85%, KRW 475.4 billion), and Hana Micron (+11.47%, KRW 449.6 billion) recorded large-scale transactions.
In bio, trading was concentrated on HLB (fluctuating rate +32.41%, transaction amount 465.8 billion won).
A characteristic of this week's trading was the mixed stock price trends of large-sized semiconductors and small- and medium-sized semiconductors. While Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix experienced adjustments despite large-scale transactions, many small and medium-sized semiconductor stocks saw both increased transactions and a rise in stock prices.
KOSPI Foreign Investors sell KRW 8.3 trillion… KOSDAQ is a net purchase of institutions
There were also differences between KOSPI and KOSDAQ in terms of supply and demand by investment entity.
From September 28 to October 2, Foreign Investors net sold KRW 8.315 trillion and institutions net sold KRW 971.8 billion on KOSPI. Individuals made net purchases of 1.9023 trillion won.
In KOSDAQ, institutions net bought KRW 642.9 billion, while Foreign Investors net sold KRW 95.8 billion and individuals net sold KRW 514.7 billion.
While large-scale selling by Foreign Investors continued in the KOSPI, institutions showed a buying advantage in the KOSDAQ. It is also noteworthy that the KOSDAQ recorded a weekly increase rate that significantly exceeded the KOSPI, accompanied by institutional supply and demand.
