Ahead of kimchi, the prices of cabbage, radish, and domestically produced red pepper powder have fallen compared to the same time last year. On the other hand, salted shrimp became 35% more expensive than the same period last year, and anchovy fish sauce and sea salt also rose, resulting in mixed price trends for each ingredient.
According to the retail price data of the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT) Agricultural Distribution Information (KAMIS) on the 22nd, cabbage (highland) was priced at 4,616 won per head, 18.0% lower than the price of 5,628 won in the same period last year. Radish (highland) was priced at 2,212 won per piece, down 7.1% from 2,381 won over the same period.
Agricultural products used as seasoning were also cheaper than last year. Domestic red pepper powder was priced at 31,414 won per 1kg, down 1.9% from the same period last year. Domestic peeled garlic was priced at 10,982 won per 1 kg, and domestic ginger was priced at 11,686 won, down 2.1% and 17.2%, respectively.
Among salted seafood, the rise in salted shrimp was notable. The retail price of 1 kg is 20,647 won, an increase of 5,350 won (35.0%) from 15,297 won at the same time last year. Anchovy fish sauce was priced at 6,259 won per 1 kg, 2.4% higher than the price of 6,115 won in the same period last year.
Sea salt used to pickle cabbage was also more expensive than the previous year. The price per 5 kg is 11,941 won, an increase of 350 won (3.0%) from 11,591 won at the same time last year.
The trend over the past month was different for each item. Peeled garlic and radishes are cheaper than last year, but are 2.1% and 2.3% higher, respectively, than a month ago. Cabbage and red pepper powder were 23.4% and 7.6% lower, respectively, compared to the previous month. Sea salt fell slightly from 12,038 won a month ago.
