Daewoong Pharmaceutical supplies Ansan’s first ‘sink’ to Class Hospital… Monitoring hospitalized patients 24 hours a day with AI

First introduction of Ansan Spine and Joint Hospital… Establishment of a smart monitoring system for 90 beds

Enhancing patient safety through continuous monitoring from spine and joint surgery patient hospitalization to recovery

Daewoong Pharmaceutical (069620) announced on the 30th that it has supplied the AI-based smart bed monitoring system ‘thynC’ to 90 beds at Class Hospital (CEO Lim Seok-min), creating a smart ward environment where the vital signs of hospitalized patients can be checked in real time 24 hours a day.

Class Hospital was the first spine and joint hospital in Ansan to introduce Sink. Through this, the condition of spine and joint surgery patients can be monitored continuously from hospitalization to recovery. We also introduced ‘CART-ON’, a ring-shaped continuous blood pressure monitor that can monitor blood pressure 24 hours a day.

This introduction takes into account the recovery characteristics of spine and joint patients, such as the risk of complications after surgery and early walking and rehabilitation. Patients who are elderly or have underlying diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes should be careful of cardiac complications such as arrhythmia after surgery. Pulmonary embolism, which occurs when blood clots that form due to decreased movement block the pulmonary blood vessels, or respiratory depression due to use of narcotic painkillers should also be examined.

These complications may first appear as electrocardiogram abnormalities, increased heart rate, decreased oxygen saturation, and changes in respiratory rate. Continuously checking key biosignals can help detect abnormalities early. In particular, patients undergoing early ambulation and rehabilitation treatment need to continuously monitor their condition even while moving out of bed.

SYNC is a wireless wearable device worn by the patient that collects major biological signals such as electrocardiogram, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate in real time. The collected information is transmitted to the central monitor at the ward nurse station, allowing medical staff to check the status of multiple patients at a glance.

Because it is wireless, monitoring can continue even while the patient moves around the room or receives rehabilitation treatment. When abnormal signs are detected, a notification is sent to medical staff to support a rapid response. Daewoong Pharmaceutical explained that it can reduce the workload of medical staff and disruption of patients' sleep caused by repeatedly measuring vital signs at night.

Class Hospital focuses on joint and spine treatment and operates a joint center, spine endoscopy center, pediatric orthopedic center, and sports medical center. Through cooperation with related departments such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, and rehabilitation medicine, we have a treatment system that extends from diagnosis to surgery, recovery, and rehabilitation.

Lim Seok-min, CEO of Class Hospital, said, “For spine and joint surgery, safety management during the recovery process after surgery is more important than anything else. With the introduction of this sink, hospitalized patients can now receive treatment in an environment where 24-hour monitoring is possible, and we will continue to develop into a patient-centered smart hospital.”

Park Hyeong-cheol, head of Daewoong Pharmaceutical's ETC Marketing Division, said, "By introducing a sink to a class hospital, we have created a smart ward environment where the vital signs of spine and joint surgery patients can be checked 24 hours a day from admission to recovery." He added, "Based on the sink, we will continue to expand the smart hospital model that improves patient safety and medical staff's work efficiency to local medical institutions."

Class Hospital plans to gradually promote digital transformation of the entire ward operation, starting with the introduction of this sink.
